Ok.. I'll see what can do. Funny, I never thought I'd miss the qt3
environment variables. It did make it easy to use different
versions. Once I figure out how it's changed I'll start in.

strace output if you had some break points in where you think the problem
may be? If so, I will test on my end. Let's find facts yo.
maybe profiling is a better alternative
as the problem seems to reside in libqt4 core i can't really tell where to
look, unless you're willing to rebuild the qt4 libraries for debug and
lucky enough to let the issue get caught.
