Security from who?
My laptop sits on a table in my house. Unless a thief breaks in, I
doubt there is
any danger.
Also, I am not against security. I am for making it easier to work
with the system.
Having a clear option to turn auto login on or off has nothing to do
with security per se.
Louigi's machine perhaps is a DAW, with less important office work etc..
I remember that some musicians protected their DX7 and Ensoniq Mirage in
the 80s with a password login. Yes, they were musicians only, not
engineers, so they were not aware about how useless this was. Even a
stupid thieve, unable to remove the protection, would have stolen the
gear. Thieves don't test the gear before they steal it.
If you need protection against police, constitution protection etc.,
don't use a computer, even encryption isn't save, because spying can be
done with an antenna and other tricks.
Encryption is useful for a businessman's laptop.
My guitars and even my DX7 aren't password protected ;). My cuddly toy
amebas put a hex on the equipment, so a thieve won't be lucky.
