not sure this a great suggestion for a newcomer to "all this", but anyway ...
QTractor would probably be a better idea for the next couple of months.
Only problem might be if you used the synth's GUI
to tweak sound
parameters; they wouldn't be recorded.
not true in ardour3, which has full automation of all MIDI CC controls.
