Intel has open-sourced the linux DRI drivers for its integrated video.

Intel now likely have the fastest open source hardware accelerated
opengl driver for linux. Unfortunately, you can't get discreet video
cards from Intel.
The Core 2 Duo is a great CPU too, low powered and fast.
Intel provides a great combo if you're looking for a completely
open-source platform with decent 3d acceleration.
