Everything looks good, perhaps there is a kernel/alsa mismatch?
The alsa-driver/kernel rpm is version specific and must match your
kernel. The ALSA freshrpms are compiled for the most recent offical
redhat kernel, 2.4.20 something. Take a look at the alsa-kernel rpm
installed from fresh and see if it matches:
rpm -qa | grep alsa-kernel
uname -r

 I feel your pain...
If you are having problems groking hte redhat way of controlling the
sound You might want to try installing frm the planet ccrma
 repository.
It is packaged specifically for redhat uswers and gets a very good
 press.

Being on stage with the band in front of crowds shouting, "Get off!
 No!
We want normal music!", I think that was more like acting than
 anything
 I've ever done.
