Lurking here, I see you didn't get any replies. Maybe I can start the
ball rolling.
I own the UA-1A and am very happy with it. Cheap (£75 when it first
came out), no configuration apart from activating USB audio in the kernel.

But those issues were not related to the UA-1A itself, I merely had to
ensure the source volume wasn't too high. Ecasound is great,
ecasignalview allows you to set this correctly in realtime.

Not possible on the device. You need to be able to do this upstream,
otherwise clipping will be a problem.

No, no mixer access is available.
Sound quality is good enough for me (a consumer).
