Maybe it has something to do with my switch to linux being
pretty recent(last 6 months)? I have used the Midisports under Windows
for a while now, always keeping up to date with the latest
drivers/firmware on the windows side.

problems with my midisport. :)
Hmmm, not really, I do have some (old) open source firmware and a hotplug package for better usb support, but I
don't think that does
anything for the 8x8.
