just be installed if alsa is there. Also with QASmixer, make sure it is
pointing at the audio device and not Pulse (where it defaults to).
Alsamixer never points at pulse :)
Alas, not true. Alsamixer does precisely that (with no arguments) on my
system where the default ALSA device is Pulse.
