Makes you wonder what's in their head when
they think of music.
They're hearing exactly what is infront of them. A large part of one's
conservatory or university musical education is solfege/ear training.
Most good readers prehear what is infront of them along with the visual
cues that imply physical notes and figurings.
Oh sure, but I was just surprised by the idea that some of them
could have all that training, yet be allegedly unable to
just pick up their instrument and play whatever they want without
having to have a written score to perform it from.
But then, I guess it's no different from a trained actor
who is nevertheless tongue-tied without a script.
