Thanks a lot for your help, Pieter
Freebob did not cause this, the device was simply not initialized
properly by Fedora.
Searching the web I found some kind of a "solution":
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=192069&highlight=f…
this barely works but I found no hint regarding the background.
Why do I need to use modules from a Repo that seems to be known for
creating dependency-issues and other trouble?
What really estranges me the most is, that nobody in the realm of CCRMA
appears to be aware oft that - is that specific in FC9 and long since
solved in FC8?
At the other hand, the Presonus is now recognized and initialized. I
tried it 5-6 times in the last 6 h and it kinda works. Yet the
performance is fair at best. Zynadd produces scratch-noise with more
then 3 (!) voices, Specimen takes about 6.
On the very same box I can run a 30+-track Ardour session with 2
Instances of AMS plus Zynadd plus H2 without trouble via the presonus.
This is in 64Studio - but 64Studio initializes the FireBox only in one
out of 5 tries to connect it. So restarting the Computer 5 times gives
me one session that really works OK. :(

Please
consider to unlist the following causes for that:
1.) permissions: all is set properly I have good success with the same
setup in 64Studio
2.) presonus-trouble: the box works OK (see above) I tried it both
host-powered and with the power-supply attached to the box...
What error message does freebob give?
could not get driver handle ... is ieee1394 and raw1394 loaded?
this was before the hack from fedora-forums
now it does not show up anything unusual (it even takes hundreds of
xruns whithout a crash...)
Can you post the output of "lsmod"?
I guess, this would not shed much light on the initial issue now ;-)
But the system still yields this when connecting the box:
ieee1394: Error parsing configrom for node 0-00:1023
best regards
