i tend to say: "me not." but it ahhmmm... depends,
1.) would jack be "scalable" enough to run xmms and kolf with sound
enabled at the same time on a Pentium1/166MHz as arts does with arts for

Depends how much ram you have - jack requires quite a lot. The cpu load is
pretty low though, for largish buffer sizes.
2.)would jack be as stable and powerfull than as it is
when optimized
for pro-Apps only ?
No - adding things like sample format negotiation and sample rate
conversion would seriously hurt JACK.
