My girlfriend uses Cinelerra for her video editing. I
personally don't know too much about video editing, but I've heard that Cinelerra
is very good. I'm not sure how supported it is.

There are plenty of editors to choose from but Julien is looking
specifically for info on how to rip, edit/split and write DVD's.
Is this because your friend doesn't have a DVD writer that can do multi
layer? Perhaps all you need is cdrecord with the right options?
Does your friend want to automate the process or have more control over
the edit points with a user interface?

Subject: [LAU] [OT] Video editing - working with DVDs
Hello everyone!
A friend of mine is in trouble editing DVDs at the
moment and is wondering if there is a video
editing list for Linux. We both took
a look , but didn't come up with anything too helpful.
Does anyone of
youknow such a mailinglist or forum or is anyone
willing to help her? She's
trying to cut double layer DVDs so they can fit on two single layer
DVDs.
Thanks and kindest regards
Julien
