O'Connor spake thus:
hi all
this has taken me ages ... dog knows why ... ten years, in fact :)

first "verse" was written said ten years ago during a particularly
scummy inner-city/amphetamine/paranoia period of my life ... second
verse was just since i got it happening with linux audio (few months
back) ...
it used to be just the first verse and chorus, really ... since then
i've dragged out the latent sonic youth-isms into the outro and given it
some more interesting (i think) rhythmic melodies.
i got this finished now so's i could rehearse it with the "band" on the
weekend.
i used hydrogen for the drums, and ardour to record all else (except
that feedback you can hear floating over some of it - with two young
kids around, i haven't found time or place to record pure feedback from
my amp, so i got this from the Slayer 2 VST guitar plugin - it has
astoundingly good feedback that you can control like well!).
also, there's a bunch of ladspa plugins for reverb and tube preamp
emulation on some parts (i've only just recently discovered the TAP
Reverb Editor - wow, it rocks!)
hope you all enjoy ...
and now to check out the back issues of music made with linux :)
Wow. Another great track. I need to listen to this a few dozen more
times, but my first thoughts are: this is really nice. I'd probably
tighten up the vocals, but then again it's obvious you were after that
particular sound.
actually, yr right about the vocals, even though they've got the general
flavour i'm after - the only reason i didn't make sure they were
absolutely nailed was my wife coming in after about 1000 times through
trying to sing them properly to say: "Shayne, the landlord is next door,
and i think he's a bit disturbed by this" ... (i was wearing earphones,
so he only would've heard me singing "i'm gonna burn it down! burn it
down etc") :D
The end is great, from the break. I love it.
Again it reminds me of the pixies, with some little bits of (sorry)
status quo ;)
is good company to be in ... except for the status quo, ha ha - nah, a
*cross* between them *and* the pixies is fine ;)
I got very excited when I noticed that you had
something else for us
to listen to, and I wasn't disappointed.
which reminds me - in my excitement of signing off on it, i forgot to
send it to LAM (which, hopefully everyone here will migrate to
eventually for music).
cheers, as always, james
ps - i'm gonna download yr song tomorrow and listen up - sorry, i
haven't had time to scratch my bum lately, and my word does it need
scratchin!
