Do you have a Sound Blaster Live or Audigy card?
No, I want to play a MIDI-file with my motherboard's internal
soundcard:
sfxload is used only by souncards with onboard wavetable synthesizer,
for loading soundfonts into it, but isn't that the case

Can I use a soundfont without a special soundcard?
Yes, timidity can use soundfonts; you should put a line similar to this
one in the timidity.cfg file:
soundfont /where/is/my/soundfont.sf2
In debian the config file is /etc/timidity/timidity.cfg - don't know
other distros
I can play .mid-files with timidity and pmidi.

Til
PS:
til@debian:~ - pmidi -l
Port Client name Port name
128:0 TiMidity TiMidity port 0
128:1 TiMidity TiMidity port 1
128:2 TiMidity TiMidity port 2
128:3 TiMidity TiMidity port 3
Perfect, this is the right way of doing it if you don't have an onboard
synth. You can also use "timidity <file>.mid" directly.
Cheers,
