One last question: Is it really necessary to

'cause when you start trying to describe how to do this stuff to a noob, you
begin to realize that you have yet to scratch the surface! And the biggest
point made by everyone so far is "I talk too much!" :) So....why? I figured I
would describe the quick and "dirty" way first...then lay out the methods
utilizing realtime-lsm in the 2.6 kernel as I use on my system. But it
involves editing modprobe.conf to setup on boot...that was ~not~ something I
want to guide a noob straight into...just more or less testing if everything
works.
FWIW, I have submitted realtime-lsm for inclusion in the mainstream 2.6
kernel, and so far the response has been positive. So, hopefully in the
near future there will be one less step to get a Linux 2.6 based audio
setup up and running.
