The reason I personally don't recommend Audacity
for multitracking
is that you can't record more than a stereo track. ie. it would be
a little hard to record from or send to a multichannel source.
You need version 1.1.3 or later for multichannel. Last night we
recorded 8 simultaneous tracks at 48KHz/32 bit float using a Delta
1010 - no glitches.
