I run a LTS now and jackd must be upgraded. For Ardour to export
reliably. Not so easy. It will be done, but cycles will be spent.

Nope, you can change login shell whenever you want,
bash is just the
default one. man chsh
Sure, it is possible to choose one that will be the hardest to learn and
hardest to find solutions, if needed, since much less people are using
it. bash is the most common, is commonly found in major distros and
makes perfect sense when someone that sounds like a beginner asks for
general advice.
