but it wasn't, it was some other weird unit ("frames") that I don't

So, my 2-seconds estimate was totally wrong, I had been moving the tracks over by entire
beats to try to get them to sync up.

Ardour's timecode display shows 8267 samples
as 5 seconds.
It's more like 5 *frames*.
Switch the display to minutes:seconds instead of timecode.
