One more thing ... when jack starts it reports these:

Should there also be a cap_set_pcap in there? or am I only imagining

If you use 2.6.x + the lsm realtime module you need to use jackd, not
jackstart. In newer versions (cvs) of jack jackstart works (it complains
but works anyway).
