IMHO it's not the worst thing to happen for the freeware
community, I sort of frown upon the practice of 'cloning' and enjoy
genuinely new free apps a lot more... ZynAddSubFX comes to mind.
But if you want to play, say, Black Metal you can't use ZynAddSubFX,
according to the authors whish. :(
I think you're confusing form and style with content and intent. ZynAddSubFX
would be inappropriate in a Black Metal song, because it's just too sweet and
harmonic. However, if you take a walk though the instrument presets you will
realise that the author is no stranger to the weird and wonderful. There are
some great sounds there and plenty of room to make more. Yes, I find the
religious statements in the documentation a bit cheesy, but having played
with ZynAddSubFX and having an understanding of the relationship between
music, geometry and spirituality, I bow to NOP's understanding of the
science. I think anyone would be hard pressed to make anything other than
healing music with this software.
Not to disagree with anything you said, but I also want to add to the
record that theres a lot of christian black and death metal bands:
Religion =/= music style.
