Inkjet-printed CDs may not look as slick as silkscreened ones, but
they're way, way less tacky than labels (which eventually bubble or
worse, come off inside someone's player and ruin it, as once happened
to one of my drives.) The Epson RX580 is starting to show up cheap
(like $60) as a refurb, and as long as you have a really up to date
Linux/cups/gutenprint/whatever it is that makes "Epson RX580" show up
in my printer list on Kubuntu 7.10, you should be able to print CDs
on it without much trouble.
One caveat about the RX580 is that the scanner part of it won't be
recognized unless you install some binary blob from an
Epson-affiliated website, and the binary blob is 32-bit only.
