It seems that rosegarden 0.8.5 won't display flattened notes only if no
initial key is declared. When I write something like F major at the beginning
of the staff, I get my flat signs, which is a viable workaround for my
situation.
I often prefer prefer writing without an initial key declaration, as if the
tune was in C Major. I see no reason to write down a tune that doesn't use
functional harmony in any specific key, just to have some signs available.
I will take a look at the new version.
Oh yes, and Chris: Thank you again :-)

Which version are you using?
4-0.8.5
If you're already using 0.9 and still having
troubles, it may well be
worth asking about it on the rosegarden-user mailing list, where a
couple of other RG developers (besides myself) might be able to help
establish what the problem is.
Hmm, I should really upgrade my version.
BTW I imported a .mid file with lots of flat notes in it, they all showed
up as sharp ones again. But I should not complain about aold versions here.
Thank you Chris.
