modprobe.conf by hand like they do on other distros. This is likely
one of those things that is sort of in the cracks.
It's just as confusing in Debian. update-modules is obsolete (that's what the
man-page says, it writes out to modprobe.conf), but due to the requirements
of backwards compatibility, the old structure still exists. The whole is
neither intuitive nor well documented.
