Would you say the free version features are enough for a typical vlogger?
Doing some basic editing, adding simple transition effects, music and such?

I'm impressed. It's pretty high end, especially if you get the full
version. If they follow the Windows version, the basic version is free
but the "pro" version is a yearly subscription of $60 (which is
actually less than I pay annually for Ardour :-D )
