Lyrics by Schikaneder, not Mozart. And they are not any more or
less stupid than for example:
Hey joe, where you goin' with that gun of your hand
Hey joe, i said where you goin' with that gun in your hand, oh
I'm goin' down to shoot my old lady
You know i caught her messin' 'round with another man
by Jimi Hendrix. In both cases, they serve to paint a quick
picture of a character, in Mozart's case quite a frivolous one,
in Hendrix' case something more dark.
If you would be capable of looking a bit deeper than the surface,
you'd discover that Mozart's 'Magic Flute' is not just bourgeois
divertissement but quite an eleborate exploration of the ambiguity
of good vs. evil, of right vs. wrong.
