I am only on dial-up with very little download allowance, so CCRMA is out
of the question. I am not a fan of RedHat either, even though I have a copy
of RH8.
Thanks anyway, I have since compiled my own kernel with the appropriate
patches and all is well.

Actually,
I know where to find the original patches. However, they don't
patch
successfully against the Mandrake 9.0 kernel source. Oh well, looks
like I'll have to roll my own. Too much crap in the MDK kernel which I
don't need anyway.
