I am operating with 2 main scenarios in mind. I am a
jazz musician so I
would like to be able to record live shows and mix PA and Monitors for a
quartet so that's about 8 in and 6 out. I need fully balanced inputs to
prevent hum on live gigs. The second scenario is using the rig for my
recording studio. (a work that is still in progress) I would need multiple
inputs and outputs here as well.

Hi!
I am interested in multitracking with Ardour. I have everything up and
running and I think it's great! Better than Pro Tools except for MIDI
obviously, and hardware. I am looking into upgrading my sound card. (I
have a SoundBlaster live and I want something more pro) I think the
best
option is RME Multiface 24/96 which is apparently
well supported by
ALSA.
Is there another option I should be considering?
Possibly something
less
expensive?
It depends how many & what kind of I/O you need.
Many of us here are happy with the M-audio Delta line,
I use the Delta 66.
