Actually it would be easy to test. Import 24bit, very low signal, export
from 16 bit session, see if theres noise in the bottom bits.
very low signal == only the bottom 8 of 24 bits have data, while the
upper 16 are all zeros? Interesting idea if I understand you correctly.
