If you go the pam route and need pam debs for sarge:
ftp://ftp.techweb.rfa.org/debrfa/dists/sarge/main/binary-i386/
Not sure if they would work for etch or not. You might have to grab the
source package (also on techweb) and rebuild it.
(disclaimer ... these aren't official packages in any way, just what
we're using at are-fa for our rivendell deployment)
