Hi, I'm interested in how to create a
"choir" effect - given a single
instrument playing (I'm personally interested in single drum shots from
hydrogen and guitar lines, i.e. not chords), I'd like to have n
copies of the signal (where n would probably be something between 2 and
20), each with a slightly different delay, volume, eq, pitch.
Is this doable in a sane way, at least in part, with the free tools we
have?
Simple solution: Instead of using the one "best" take, use the best four
takes. Instant choir. If you want you can put them on different tracks and
stretch the pan a bit. But using one track and making the takes "opaque" in
ardour is also easy to handle.
If that is not an option (because there aren't enough best-takes or because
its just a programmed synth-track (*)) you have to use a chorus effect.
(*) You can also just record that synth several times if the sequencer has a
feature to add some jitter to the notes or maybe some swing. Maybe combine it
with detuning the synth a bit different for each take and you get several
"musicians" too.
Have fun,
