thanks, rick. interestingly, 2.6.8 doesn't even work in a root
environment for me. fernando's 2.6.7 works fine, even as a normal user.
i guess i'll step back from the bleeding edge a little!

Hmm, I just tried burning a disk with xcdroast and it worked (as root).
This is on kernel 2.6.8.1-1.520.1vR9.ll.rhfc2.ccrma with a HL-DT-ST
DVDRAM GMA-4020B.
