The UA-25EX that I just purchased does not do allow monitoring of usb
input, and when using the mode 96kHz you have to reboot the device
when switching from recording to playing. Both of these are serious
down sides to the use I had in mind for the device.

What do you mean by 'monitoring of usb input'?
You're talking about rebooting, but all one needs to do with my UA25
(no EX) is unplug the device, change the samplerate and re-plug it. I
imagine that it can be annoying when you need to change the samplerate
often.
