Does the crackle go away with higher number of periods (-p512 or
similar)? And did you try playing with -n3, too?
Kernel 2.4.25 with CAT_SETPCAP patch but no low
latency patch.
Not good. You really should consider to use the patch or a 2.6.
kernel.
