Just reading about the latest
kde release and it appears there is a move
towards svg as the rendering engine. I wonder if gtk is taking this
concept to the limits also?

I don't think that svg is the way to go for ardour. At least not in the scale
it is done in KDE. There they try to do everything in svg and render on the
fly. For ardour that would mean more cpu-cycles burned for gui which lowers
the power available for effects and io. And I want rather good effects (and
many effects) and fast io of many stream then a scaling gui that displays
shiny things...
On properly set system, this is not an issue because audio is processed
in high priority realtime thread. This means that UI can not take CPU
From audio thread. Only effect should be slower redraw of the UI if CPU
usage hits 100%
