Alex,
I would definitely recommend Planet CCRMA on Fedora Core 1 (not 2). I
used to do all of the install by hand
(http://myweb.cableone.net/eviltwin69/ALSA_JACK_ARDOUR.html) but I have
since switched to the planet. The only things I build from scratch now
are JACK, Ardour, and JAMin. I did a complete reload of my system and
had it ready to go in one day using the planet. The main thing to keep
in mind when you load FC1 is to load *everything*. At the bottom of the
package selection screen there is an "everything" button. I partitioned
my system with 100MB /boot, 10GB /, and the rest of the first drive as
data. Second drive strictly for audio. I still have some decent system
tuning stuff on the above page even if you do use the planet.

definitely like to go open + Linux.
I'm sorry if this has been discussed previously, I just joined this list and
had a quick search for related threads, anyway if this topic has been around
I would appreciate a pointer to the relevant thread and please accept my
apologies.

PS: Yesterday I visited a Protools based studio (G4 Mac + 24 channel console
+ big rack with lotsa stuff), needless to say I was in heaven but that was a
very different story altogether!
