that usx2yloader error should only happen,
if something has gone to "dmesg" as well.
the chipset is not like the one, i had trouble with.
me thinks it'd be best to compile/install a recent kernel
with CONFIG_SND_DEBUG_DETECT set and check if dmesg shows
something ( like "dsp_load") then.

Above error message means:
"usx2yloader can't transfer the firmware to the us122"
So it could be a USB problem. I once had such USB problem with a
VIA chipset mobo. things didn't work, until i connected my us428 to
the other USB connector.
Does
$ dmesg
say something?
Nothing very interesting. This is what comes from loading the module
and running fxload:
usbcore: registered new driver snd-usb-usx2y

what kind of motherboard do you use?
