has a list of sites with free
soundfonts. I don't know how up to date it is, but there may be some
treasure among the junk. Just make sure you have JS turned off when
you visit those sites...

Sorry for the private email, sometimes it turns out that the private
email is the address shown instead of the mailing list's.
Looks like a jungle site of some sorts. Clicked to download a 'Real
Trombone Sus.SF2' of some 7MB and end up with some Joshua's trombone at
352KB.
Forget the question about sf2 files.
