ps. maybe you could upload a sample of your playing somewhere and a
description of what sort of sound you are after and people could give
you examples of what ladspa plugins and settings they would use to get
it? just an idea.

effects on it.
Mostly it's just me, and I'm not a bass player but I own two, but to
me it's mostly about gentle EQ. I find I cannot change the real nature
of the instrument itself but rather can just move it a bit in the
direction I want it to go.
You're quite right. Bass sound is very much a matter of fingers (or
pickups) playing. As every other instruments, actually, but in "current
music", I think it's really marked.
