no major complaints, generally i love it.
Although to be honest i started with Mandrake and have
stuck with it.
I do however find a lack of documentation relating
to the Mandrake distro that is not aimed at noobs.
This is true of the Mandrake site and also of the mailing
lists and newsgroups i have come across, but maybe i have
just missed something? Where do knoledgable Mandrake peeps
hang out?
Eg if i try to install an rpm which fails, what do i do?
Rpms dont have much documentation relating to the rpm itself.
They have a changelog and such, but its usually not very useful.
Actally i have learned more from your comments in this thread
than from most other places.
2. If Mandrake 9.0 is not your primary distribution for audio, why
not?
What is missing or what has turned you away?
things that could turn me away:
-developers dont as a rule use Mandrake, and i have big
problems installing immature software from source (and has already
been said, most music production software is in a continuous state
of flux right now, and i'm not sure you will ever be able to keep
the rpms up to date.) I havnt been making SRPMS like you suggest,
so i will give that a go.
3. What audio applications are we missing (please check current list
provided below, as many new apps have been added since 9.0)?
-low latency kernel.
4. What thee audio applications do you consider the most
valuable/important? (do not include alsa, jack, mixers, or ogg/mp3
players/encoders)
alsaplayer
muse/rosegarden/ardour
flac
Audio Apps Currently in Mandrake 9.1 developer

wow! the list looks pretty complete to me :-)
this will help Mandrake a lot! Maybe i wont try out Gentoo just yet :-)
great stuff.
