Hello, This is my first post. I work everyday with
Linux at my job (Slackware). I was wondering what most
of the people on this list use as their main Distro
for Linux audio? I plan to use some form of multitrack
recording software as well as some sampling looping
software as well.
I use Debian sid, but I'd recommend UbuntuStudio or 64studio for ease of use.
I have some older boxes that I was considering using
does anyone have advice on processor speed and system
configurations that work well?
For just doing disk recording, a 1Ghz machine or even slower might be fine.
If you are going to be using lots of plugin effects or softsynths, get the fastest machine
you can get your hands on. My 2.33Ghz dual-core Intel 64bit system works fine with lots of
softsynths and plugins simultaneously.
I am also interested in knowing what hardware
interface work best for Linux audio?
It seems that PCI interfaces are the most solid and reliable. It's a bit more
hit-and-miss with firewire or USB.
