Probably not all of them are GPL, but have you looked
at
http://www.hammersound.net which is a great soundfont resource.
On that note, what does everybody use to play their soundfonts? I am
interested in those who use soundfonts without a creative card. What are
your experiences?
I'm using iiwusynth with my powerbook soundcard / alsa cvs + midisport 1x1 and its
great! I don't even need to run x :)
I've been playing with the jeux church organ sound font and the rhodes sound font
previously discussed on this list.
