Hi Jörn,
may I ask four your shopping experience regarding the mic preamp?
Do you have experience with the presonus digimax d8? How does it compare
to RME Octamic II, and Behringer ADA8000?
What I read in the specs was EIN -126 dB for the Presonus, -129 dB for
RME, and approx -110 dB for the Behringer (own measurment, to be used
with caution...). The THD is -50 dB for Presonus, -66 dB for RME, and
unspecified for the Behringer (although it is quite high for the
Behringer output, and specified to be -40 dB for the "system", whatever
that means). Price is 333 EUR for Presonus, 1249 EUR for RME, 219 EUR
Behringer. Any comments?
cheers!

hi everyone!
i'm shopping for a new 8-way mike preamp with calibrated and steppered
(or digitally controlled) gains (to allow for precisely gain-aligned
soundfield recordings). it should include an a/d converter to adat.
specifically, it should be low-noise and must have a very robust phantom
power section that can take 8 schoeps or other misbehaved phantom
current guzzlers without stress symptoms.
gain of no less than 60dB would be nice.
can anyone recommend anything in the <2k price range? ultimately, i'd
want one of those micstasies with a madiface to go with it, but first i
need something more affordable to earn some cash with :)
i don't much care for input impedance wizardry, i like my mike ins hi-Z,
thank you very much - if i don't want that bright treble, i'll filter it
later... :)
your recommendations are appreciated!
best,
jörn
