Hi,
I've been working on a modular synth builder for a while and I've just
put the first release up on SourceForge:

(It requires slv2, GooCanvas 0.14, and the ladspa-swh-plugins if you
want to build it.)
There are also some screenshots here (the second one shows the created
synth in use):

This is all pre-alpha stuff so don't expect it to work that well yet (or
even compile easily!). It can only create fairly basic synths at
present.
I could do with some help checking over the basic architecture and
prioritising future work, so join the mailing list on sourceforge if you
want to get involved.

It looks a bit like SynthEdit, isn't it ?
I dream about a SynthEdit for linux, wich could export patch into LV2 or
LADSPA plugins. Please tell me that you are doing it !! :D
Well, I tested it a bit, and here are my first impressions :
- no problems to compile
- looks easy and intuitive to use
- perhaps a right click should be an alternative to the menu (add modules /
modules properties ...)
- I got many xruns with Jack when I play a note and move my mouse focusing
differents windows.
- no problem loading VST or LV2
- a left click to select multiples modules
- I didn't find how to delete a preset manager
- I got many : "librdf fatal - Cannot add statement to model" running
Synthforge (I think this is not a synthforge issue)

Synthforge (I think this is not a synthforge issue)
This is common for programs using a particular back-end in a
particular release of the Raptor RDF datastore (e.g. anything using
the SLV2 library, plus a number of other programs). It's generally
quite benign -- the bug is that the message is printed when it
shouldn't have been.

Yes, it is very similar to SynthEdit, and Reaktor. (I have Reaktor, and
some of the synths available are excellent. I hope SynthForge can be
used to create lots of synths like those someday.)
I'd like to turn SynthForge into an LV2 plugin with a GUI that can be
used in a DAW like Ardour. I'm not sure about exporting projects as
separate LV2 or LADSPA plugins - the SynthForge engine would still be
needed to run the projects, so I'm not sure you gain much by creating
separate LV2/LADSPA plugins (and it would be a lot of work to support
that). Reaktor doesn't export plugins either - you just load in the
ensemble project files. That seems to work OK.
Well, I tested it a bit, and here are my first

I don't get many here. But it is easy to overload the CPU if the number
of voices & unison settings are high. Is your CPU usage very high? Try
reducing the number of voices to see if that fixes it.
I'll try to optimise it at some point to bring down the CPU usage.

Yes.

It's a bit awkward at present. You have to middle-click or Control
+left-click on the buttons on the right of the preset manager to select
it. Then hit the Delete toolbar button. I'll try to make it easier in
future (GTK+ is being awkward!)

Yes, that sounds like a librdf bug. I think I had that problem with an
old version. Try updating them.

trouble:
I'm using CCRMA on Fedora 10 and had to compile never versions of slv2,
rasqal, raptor and redland in another location in order to make it compile.
After installation it won't start and complains with:

'/usr/lib/lv2/synthforge.lv2/manifest.ttl' open failed - No such file or
directory
Segmentation fault

Looks very cool and promising, thanks! I really want to try it, but have some
trouble:
I'm using CCRMA on Fedora 10 and had to compile never versions of slv2,
rasqal, raptor and redland in another location in order to make it compile.

Oh yes, the libraries get installed there as well, so you can't delete
it.
I can reproduce the error you see, but the synth still works OK here.
If you can re-install it and get a stack trace that would be useful.
Otherwise it may be better to wait until it is a bit more stable.
