I am pleased to release StrechPlayer 0.501, a time-stretching, pitch-shifting audio file player. It is powered by librubberband, and also features an A/B repeat. NEW IN THIS RELEASE ------------------- * No longer clicks when changing speeds or pitch. * Includes .desktop file and icon. * .deb binary package is provided, including a separate package with debugging symbols. Or, you can run it from the command line like this: $ stretchplayer The GUI is pretty self-explanatory, and if you hover over the controls a tool-tip should appear. The GUI also has several keyboard accelerators. To play a file, click the file-open icon and select an audio file. Stretchplayer can play anything that libsndfile supports (ogg, flac, wav, etc.). However, it does /not/ support MP3 files at this time. As the file plays, slide the horizontal slider left or right to change the speed of the song. If you wish to transpose the audio, push one of the + or - buttons. INSTALLING THE PROGRAM ---------------------- You will need at least a 1200 MHz processor to use this program. It also requires the following libraries: * Qt >= 4.4 http://qt.nokia.com * librubberband http://www.breakfastquay.com/rubberband/ * libsndfile http://www.mega-nerd.com/libsndfile/ * JACK http://jackaudio.org/ * CMake http://www.cmake.org/ If you are running Ubuntu Karmic or Ubuntu Jaunty, you can install the .deb packages like this (from the command line): $ sudo dpkg -i stretchplayer*_0.501_karmic_i386.deb Anyone else will need to build from source. hallo and thanks for the update. unfortunately this version is having troubles connecting to jack - at least here. i build it without the debugginig symbols: cmake .. -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr/ (but it behaves the same if i use the cmake line from in the INSTALL.txt file, which includes the debugging symbols...) now when i start it, while jack is already running, everything goes ok and stretchplayer is connected to my system playback ports: nowhiskey@murija4:~$ stretchplayer StretchPlayer version 0.501, Copyright 2010 Gabriel M. This is puzzling, because Jack2 is known for /not/ disconnecting clients. Also, the 'open file' button code is fairly simple and (AFAIK) safe. What are your jackd settings (realtime? frame rate? sample per period?) Also, what sort of hardware are you running on?

This makes sense, becuase I think stretchplayer has been totally disconnected from Jack.

1.9.6 is not yet released. Which SVN version are you using? And is it possible that you have a jackd/libjack mismatch? (E.g. there is a /usr/lib/libjack.so.0 but you're using /usr/local/lib/libjack.so.0.) Same problem on my setup! compiled from stretchplayer_0.501.tar.gz in debian squeeze 32bit AMD 64 x2 6000+ / 4 GB ram Custom kernel 2.6.33.5-rt22-realtime (compiled with rt patch and PAE) jackdmp 1.9.6 (from squeeze repository) audio device: Soundblaster audigy 2 EX qjackctl settings: - Realtime - Unlock Memory - Monitor - H/W monitor - Priority: deafult - Frame/period : 128 - Sample Rate: 48000 - Periods/buffer: 2 - Port max: 256 - Timeout: 500 msec - Latency -> 5,33 ms With other sound applications this setup works very well! Hi Gabriel, the patch doesn't works. I have the same behavior. I have some extra informations for you: 1. When I execute StretchPlayer, it show the CPU label to 4%. But using top or system monitor I can see CPU for this process at 62% 2. when I execute StretchPlayer with a wav file as argument, it works, the jack connection still active but I have the same CPU % usage 3. when I execute StretchPlayer with a mp3 file ad argument, it doesn't work, the jack connection still active and show the message in the bottom line: "File contains data in unknown format" I have some experience in C development and gdb, so I can do some debug if you want. But I need to know how to start :) Ivan

stretchplayer can't read mp3's.

you may be right, cause also the x is eating like 10 times more cpu once the stretchplayer is started.

This isn't a fix... but perhaps a "proof-of-fix." The attached patch will throttle the GUI. Can you guys try it out and see if things improve? Thanks, Gabriel

gabriel, unfortunately still the same error here: JackPosixSemaphore::TimedWait err = Unterbrechung während des Betriebssystemaufrufs SuspendRefNum error JackClient::Execute error name = StretchPlayer i applied the patch on the fresh 0.501 source and did not used the stretch-zombie patch. indeed, with this patch htop shows that stratchplayer and x are using about 5% of my cpu (1.4GHz) each. cheers, doc

For the sake of posterity... this problem[1] was traced to a bug in Jack 2 that was corrected in SVN 4023.[2] The fix was confirmed by Dragan.
