Hi all,
I am looking for a video player that could be started and stopped through OSC
and maybe synchronised as well.
We have a LADSPA plugin lying around which could maybe do the starting and
stopping (we wrote it for Ardour), so if it can do LADSPA plugins that may be
enough.
MIDI control could be an alternative maybe...
Does anyone have any good suggestions?

http://xjadeo.sf.net/ can be controlled via stdin/stdout and/or
Posix-message queues.
I do use a wrapper OSC<->stdio for some projects and will commit that to

start/stop mmh. - xjadeo does not have it's own transport. You can use
jack-transport.
MIDI control could be an alternative maybe...
xjadeo can slave to MTC.
Does anyone have any good suggestions?
Concept wise the alternative is http://sync.dyne.org/ - It does not push
the time-sync information up the stream but just runs after filling
buffers (no seek, no latency compensation,..).

Apart from the other suggestions, you could also use Pd with Gem and
the pix_movie or pix_film objects. Then you get OSC, Midi, FUDI and
what not as a remote control protocol.
And then you can also control mplayer remotely. All that is needed is
a FIFO, where you send commands like:
'echo "seek 10" > mp_pipe'
The conversion from OSC to such FIFO commands should be easy with some
Python script or so.
