Hello
I'm running debian kernel 2.6.6 and am trying to get the realtime-lsm module compiled
-without success.
I first tried the non-debian instructions in the INSTALL file, when this
didn't work, i tried
apt-get install realtime-source and
make-kpkg --append-to-version foo --added-patches=debian modules_image
it failed, the output is below.
(never having added extra third party modules in this way i then tried
a whole recompile of the kernel with the same result,
make-kpkg --append-to-version=foo --added-patches=debian
kernel_image modules_image)
my kernel config contains

someone said 'aaah, yes, those debian-patches...bla". as you say below it
realtime-lsm is a module, and its that that i have a problem with.
Right. AFAIK, Debian does not distribute the realtime-lsm as a kernel
patch. They did that for the 2.4 low-latency patch, but realtime-lsm
is a separate package.

Although I use and like Debian, I don't really understand the details
of their packaging system. Guenter Geiger created the realtime-lsm
package, and can probably answer all your questions. But, I think he
may be on vacation right now.
I maintain the CVS version of realtime-lsm, which I build from vanilla
kernel.org sources. Because I only have one machine available for
this task, and I need to maintain a pure tool-chain and build
environment for the kernel.org build, so I don't use the Debian
packages and don't really understand how they work.
If you want to roll your own kernel and build the LSM using that, I
can tell you exactly what to do. That works with Debian, but does not
integrate neatly into their packaging system the way building from
Debian sources would. It's not bad, though. The Debian developers
make sure the two methods can coexist peacefully.
My guess is that realtime-lsm has some build or install dependency on
a different kernel from the one you're using. It may be worth your
while to install that, just to see if you can get everything working
that way before you go back to struggling with 2.6.6.
From which package repository are you getting it,
DeMuDi? For some
reason I don't see any of this stuff in the standard Debian
`sources.list' repository for woody, sarge or sid right now (maybe
just something strange with my system.)

i understood that to compile 3rd party modules at that time i was meant to
do what i did: i.e
apt-get install kernel-source
apt-get install realtime-lsm-source
make-kpkg kernel-image modules-image
that did not work -modules did not compile (realtime was the only one).

Because it's the Debian way. They have a policy manual for a reason.

When in doubt, shitcan the sources in /usr/src/modules and untar a fresh copy.
If you have other module sources in there, take out realtime-lsm sources and
try make-kpkg modules-image to confirm something is flaky with realtime-lsm.
