Howdy,
I recently moved my main production box from a debian install that pulled from
the DeMudi apt resources to a straight install of DeMudi 1.2.0. Everything
works beautifully - except Jamin. This is what happens on startup:

Hmmm...
Unfortunatly thats not very informative. Do other JACK apps work OK?
Have you rebuilt it recently? It looks a bit like its built against the
wrong version of libjack. If not, make sure you only have one version of
jackd installed.

No. I did install Jamin for the first time 3-4 weeks ago. Actually it
didn't start from the beginning but I needed to go through a lot of
stuff to get audio work properly.
It looks a bit like its built against the

Ok. I'm not sure but I think I actually had one jackd when I first
started testing some of the apps for audio in beginning of December
and I think I upgraded in January. But I'm not really sure.
I tried re-emerging (rebuilding) it but with no success. Still the
same problem. If it helps I get as far as seeing some graphic sliders
and then it stops and the seg-fault appears. Should I rebuild jack?
If not, make sure you only have one version of jackd
installed.
I use gentoo and it shouldn't install 2 version side by
side. I run updatedb every night and I can't see any extra jackd.

Ugh, those are bad bugs. I have no idea what amSynth's damage is. It
looks like SpiralSynthModular checks whether it's running as root and
doesn't even bother trying to run RT otherwise.
Please report the problem to the authors of those applications.
Also, just to be sure, can you post the output of "pwck -r" (as root)?

I might add that the version of the three rebuilt software are now:

For reference, I also run gentoo and have lots of jack apps that work
great such as rosegarden with dssi (how to get that in portage) but i
have never gotten jamin running... it starts, then says Killing
Jamin.. no error messages... i will go home tonight and do an strace
on it.

I have all the stuff from the portage jackd libs...etc
I have the same problem with the portage jamin, so I try to compile it
from another source and it is the same result.
Is this a gentoo issue only ?

I use gentoo and it shouldn't install 2 version side by
side. I run updatedb every night and I can't see any extra jackd.

I did see some sort of a solution on forums.gentoo.org. It had to do
with libxml2. A rather long thread but it can be read here. This was
in November last year.

# rm /usr/share/jamin/examples/default.jamin
# touch /usr/share/jamin/examples/default.jamin
it now runs fine but with the warning pop-up at the startup
"Loading file '/usr/share/jamin/examples/default.jamin' failed"
but this is not an issue for me :)
