I remember the noise reduction provided by Sound Forge years ago. The
idea was the the user selected a portion of the waveform that contained
*only* the noise, then the software would remove this from the entire
recording. It worked quite well AFAIR.
Anything similar available in the linux eco system?
Sorry if I overlooked something obvious...
Audacity, under Effect / Noise Removal. Works wonderfully, have given it major
hard uses recently.

So far (surprisingly (to me)) audacity seems like the best bet, I'm
still to try it out, though.
Not sure anyone here ever tried the noise removal in Sound Forge, but
it's magic. I'm pretty ok with EQ, but that was something else.
