to make my tacam us-122 soundcard compatible with alsa and linux, i
had to install firmware.
now the soundcard works in linux, but not in os X anymore.
is there any way i can have my cake and eat it too? ie, get the
tascam to work under both OS's

There is not enough detail here to help you.
If a device requires firmware it requires it under every OS. What
exactly did you do to install the formware under linux, how does it "not
work", etc, etc.
