Hi All
To make it as easy as possible to create a drumkit for the Hydrogen drumkit
contest <http://hydrogen.popez.org/hcms/node/2035> i have written a small
python script that helps you with this (inspired by the perl script by
Freqrush)
It creates a Hydrogen drumkit file starting from a number of sample files
(wav/flac), so no more one-by-one importing your samples :-)
It supports multi-layered kits and allows you to easily define the position
of each instrument in your drumkit. It even auto-sets the velocity range
per layer.

Very good point you are making there
Hydrogen does not force you to follow the GM mapping at all, so you are
free to do what you want
as always freedom is great but it can also get you in a great big mess ;-)
The note-instrument mapping is documented in the manual (see

unfortunately this is not the case :-(
however, you can easily drag an instrument up/down in your loaded drumkit
to the correct 'location' and there there are plans to make the midi
mapping configurable

!! NEWS - there is a GM standard ;-)
Hydrogen could at least * encourage * participants to use the GM mapping.
You can switch drum-kits easily then and find out which of it matches
best to a song,
without re-assignment of sounds.
People have to know that.

there is however nothing in the manual that encourages the user to comply
with the GM mapping > i'll add that asap

"GM midi mapping ( H2 instrument 1 = MIDI-note-nr. 36 == 'Bass Drum 1'
)"
Obviously there is no midi note 35 in H2 (?)
I have to admit, GM-drums is not very appropriate for some of todays music,
where different snare and drum sounds are used.
But still - better than nothing - as orientation.
(at that time they only had rock'n'roll ;)
Someone could assign a second/third bass-drum sound
to any of the toms - if required.

Ups - now I'm confused:
just noticed, that the so called GM-Kit has a different mapping than
GM standard !?
Example:
H2 GMKit - note 39 : low tom (according to the table in the manual)
GM-drum official - note 39 : hand clap (according to midi spec.)
MIDI official percussion map:
